Privacy Policy

What Volt Brook collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can control it. In plain English, because a privacy policy nobody can read protects nobody.

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to voltbrook.com and to any information collected through it. By using the site you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree with them, please stop using the site.

What we collect

Information you give us directly

  • Contact form and email. If you write to us, we receive your name, your email address, and whatever you put in the message. We use it to reply and to keep a record of the exchange.
  • Comments. If commenting is enabled on a page and you leave one, we receive the name, email address, and comment text you submit, along with your IP address and browser user agent string. This is standard WordPress behaviour and helps with spam detection.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage and device data. Pages viewed, time on page, referring site, approximate location derived from IP address, browser type, operating system, and screen size.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. Small files stored by your browser. Our Cookie Policy explains these in detail.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider records IP addresses and request data as part of normal operation and security monitoring.

What we never collect

We do not ask for or store payment card details. Purchases made through our affiliate links happen entirely on the retailer’s own site, under the retailer’s own privacy policy. We never see your card number, your billing address, or your order contents.

Why we use it

  • To answer your messages and handle corrections.
  • To understand which guides are read and which are ignored, so we know what to write next.
  • To keep the site secure, detect abuse, and prevent spam.
  • To attribute affiliate referrals, so a commission is credited correctly when a purchase results from one of our links.
  • To comply with legal obligations where they apply.

Legal bases, if you are in the UK or the EEA

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you, we rely on the following legal bases. Consent, for analytics and non essential cookies. Legitimate interests, for site security, spam prevention, and understanding aggregate readership. Legal obligation, where we are required to retain or disclose information.

Third party services we use

These providers process data on our behalf or in their own right, under their own privacy policies:

  • Amazon Associates. Our primary affiliate program. When you click an affiliate link, Amazon may set cookies and record the referral in order to attribute a commission.
  • Google Analytics. Aggregate traffic measurement. It records usage data and sets cookies. We use it to see which pages work, not to identify individuals.
  • Web hosting and content delivery. Our host processes server logs and delivers page assets.
  • Spam filtering. If comments are enabled, comment metadata may be checked by an automated spam service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes.

How long we keep things

Email correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful for context and for handling any follow up, and is deleted when it no longer serves a purpose. Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow up replies stay readable, unless you ask us to remove them. Analytics data is retained according to the provider’s own retention settings. Server logs are typically retained for a short operational period by our host.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent you previously gave, and to receive your data in a portable format.

If you are a California resident, the CCPA and CPRA give you the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information. You will not be treated differently for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise any right, email hello@voltbrook.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting, and we will respond within the period required by the law that applies to you.

Cookies and how to refuse them

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking analytics and affiliate cookies will not stop you reading anything on this site. Full detail is in our Cookie Policy.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email hello@voltbrook.com and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold, including encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International transfers

Our service providers may store and process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, those transfers are made under appropriate safeguards.

Links to other sites

Our guides link to retailers, manufacturers, and other publishers. Once you leave voltbrook.com, this policy no longer applies. Please read the privacy policy of any site you visit.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The revised version takes effect when it is posted here, and the Last updated date at the top of this page will change. Material changes will be made clear rather than slipped in quietly.
